When it comes to the song “Lady Marmalade,” Iggy Azalea has made her stance very clear — she’s not going to play a part in changing something that’s already good.
British pop star Rita Ora had initially suggested the idea of recording another remake of the song with Azalea in tow in an interview with a U.K. tabloid. Music publication NME says Ora told the Sun: “It’s always been my goal to create another ‘Lady Marmalade’ … I’m trying to round up the troops. I think it would be me, Miley [Cyrus], Charli XCX — she’d be fun — and Iggy [Azalea].”
In trademark Azalea style, the Australian rapper took to Twitter to voice her disapproval of Ora’s idea. (The pair had previously collaborated on the song “Black Widow.”)
The hit was first recorded in 1975 by the soul group Labelle. It was then remade in 2001 by Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim, Christina Aguilera, Mya and Pink to accompany the film Moulin Rouge, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.
Maybe it’s time for Ora to call up a few other lady rappers like Nicki Minaj or Azealia Banks to see if they’re available instead.
