The USDA has issued an enormous recall of more than 167,000 pounds of ground beef that may have been contaminated with E. coli.
A sample of the product, processed in Omaha by All American Meats and shipped around the country, was found to contain the bacteria and traced back to the plant on Oct. 30, affecting items produced on Oct. 16. Shoppers with packages of meat with the affected case codes are advised to throw them out or return them to the store where they were purchased. So far, there are no reports of illness in connection with this recall.
The news comes on the heels of Chipotle closing 43 stores in Oregon and Washington after an E. coli outbreak sickened customers in those states, sending eight to the hospital.
