The voting contests on the day dubbed ‘Super Tuesday 2’ ended with a clearer picture of the path to the nomination for both parties this week. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio lost the primary in his home state and withdrew from the presidential race, as Donald Trump continued to clinch big victories. Ohio Gov. John Kasich won the primary in his home state and called it a game-changer. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz remains closest to Trump’s delegate lead and picked up endorsements this week from unlikely allies looking to stop Trump. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton solidified her delegate lead over Bernie Sanders, winning all five states in play—but only by a razor-thin margin in Illinois and Missouri.
TIME’s selection of the Surprising Political Photographs of the Week is published every Thursday.
