TIME LightBox presents a special preview of the must-see exhibitions on show this fall.
From Maine to Missouri, TIME’s photo editors have collated the 32 U.S. photo shows that matter most this season. New collections from artists such as Anna Yeroshenko and Phil Toledano reflect what’s exciting now, while retrospectives from greats such as Danny Lyon, Slim Aarons and Cecil Beaton will whet your appetite for the timeless.
Contemporary issues are also brought to the fore through exhibitions like Ruddy Roye’s When Living Is a Protest, which examines the ongoing struggle of African Americans living in the U.S. today. And don’t miss the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s exhibition celebrating Japanese photography from post-war to today, which include work from influential figures like Shomei Tomatsu and Daido Moriyama.
With this list, there’s enough to keep you occupied until the next crop of exciting exhibitions is unveiled in 2017.
