Ronda Rousey will challenge defending women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at the Ultimate Fighting Championship octagon in December, marking her return after Holly Holm knocked her out at UFC 193 last November.
UFC President Dana White announced Rousey’s return on Fox Sports Radio’s The Herd on Wednesday.
“Ronda Rousey is back,” White said. “She will fight Dec. 30 against Amanda Nunes for the title. Ronda Rousey has been the biggest baddest female fighter on the planet now since we got into women’s fighting. Ronda had a bad loss, obviously, and lost her title, but she’s still Ronda Rousey at the end of the day.”
Rousey, a 2016 TIME 100 honoree, has been lying low after losing her previously undefeated title to Holm in a second round knockout upset at UFC 193. White said on Wednesday that Rousey “wanted time off” and is mentally ready for her comeback at the UFC 207.
“This girl worked hard for us for three years, nonstop,” White said.
