Thursday morning, President-elect Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump arrived at the White House to meet the Obamas and check out their future home.
In a joint press conference after a nearly 90-minute conversation between Trump and Obama, the president said that Michelle Obama had also gotten face time with Melania Trump. “[First Lady] Michelle has had a chance to meet the incoming first lady and we had an excellent conversation with her as well,” Obama said. “We want to make sure they feel welcome,” the president said.
President Obama also added that he had an “excellent conversation,” with his future successor. Trump, who once led the “birther” movement, which questioned the legitimacy of America’s first black president, said that he had “great respect” for Obama. “Very good man, a very good man,” Trump said.
The Obamas and the Trumps did not pose for a picture together after the press conference, unlike when the Bushes and Obamas met at the White House for a similar post-election meeting in 2008.
